Chandana Ekanayake

Chandana Ekanayake is co-founder and Creative Director at Outerloop Games, a minority led, fully distributed indie game studio. Chandana is currently game directing Project Dosa, a narrative adventure about two sisters and their mech traveling, cooking, and fighting corpos. Prior to starting Outerloop, Chandana was an art director, game designer, and producer for over twenty years at AAA to indie sized studios.

Surviving Modern Game Development

5-8 AAA dev cycles are not sustainable, and it's not much easier in the crowded indie space. The funding isn't there; the appetite isn't there; and trends change too fast. It's all dire, but how do we survive the next 2-5 years or longer? We know what to do, but sometimes, the business needs of a public company or funding source makes development difficult . How do we convince the powers that be to let us cook? 

Issues and topics we’ll discuss and debate include: 

• How we have forgotten how to scale projects properly
• How to spend more time in pre-production with a much smaller team made up of flexible generalists.
